Maybe it was too early in the morning for this but Roden didn’t mind. He couldn’t sleep much that night for some reason. Roden was in the forrest, it was early in the morning, it was a beautiful sight, he loved it, the forrest could be scary, but in the morning it is a sight for sour eyes. The sunlight gleaming through the leaves, shining on his face occasionally as he ran through the forest on a path, which was probably created by the multiple hikers who constantly take it through the forest. Roden just thought about what a long day yesterday was, with lectures, studying and writing, it was a relief to just take your mind off of things that was bothering him. Roden ran, as he took a look at his watch, almost six-thirty AM, he then realized he had been running for almost a half hour. Jeez, was he that tired.
Roden ran pass the next three as he slowly slowed down and decided to take a moment to catch his breath. He sat down against this huge rock that was next to the path. Roden sat down as he wiped the sweat from off of his face, as he looked up and the sunlight shined on his face, his eyes slightly closed, and he moved a bit and hid behind the leaves so the sunlight was now off of his face. Gosh the forest was nice, it was a beautiful sight this morning, the sound of the animals slowly waking up and wandering the forest. Roden just sighed and then smiled at the sight. “Boy, this is beautiful” which it was and it was great to have a work out routine and it was amazing to know he could do it in such a beautiful place.

Of course, of all the times to get sick, it would happen to poor Tahlia in the beginning of the semester when missing classes could determine your place academically in the class for the rest of the semester. Not that she would miss class anyway even if she was puking her guts out, but still. It was not a happy time for the determined university student. Hence the reason she was scouting the forest for mandrake root. Of course, Charms N Thangs was shut down for a few days because of her and Paul’s horrible run in with a very large and angry troll. And because of this, her key was taken away for as long as the shop owner believed was necessary. Which meant, no buying herbs for her own medicinal purposes.
All she needed were two mandrake roots, which you would probably think would be easy to find with a ton of acres of forest. Wrong! The forest was far too big, and she found herself becoming a bit lost in her attempts at finding the damn root. She had started out on the path that ran through the forest, but now she was somewhere completely different. And still, there was no root to be found. She was sick of sucking up the snot that had been dripping from her nose every single time she bent down to search the forest floor. At this moment, she just wanted to go home. If she felt up to par, she could probably pull off a locater spell of sorts, but a witch’s immune system affected their performance greatly and right now, she felt like a lot of shit. Who knew if she would even feel okay enough to perform the spell that would make her feel better. She would probably have to ask Bobby or Maxi to help her out. That was if she could find the root.
Tahlia sighed as she plopped down against a tree pulling her cellphone out to try and get a hold of Maxi. She chuckled as she stared at the screen of her phone that had no service bars. ”This would happen to me wouldn’t it?” She asked herself shaking her head. Just then, she heard a voice from somewhere behind her. She immediately stood up and headed for the voice. ”This is so not beautiful,” she mumbled responding to the male voice’s comment. Normally, she would have agreed with him, but not right now. Not when she had been searching through these woods for probably a little over an hour.
Tahlia found the guy rather quickly and came out from the woods behind him. ”YES!” she yelled a happy grin forming on her face. The guy’s voice had led her back to the path. Maybe the best thing was to just go home and rest. Screw the mandrake root.

Roden sat there, leaning against the rocks, enjoying the sight before him, the sound of the wild behind him, the early morning would be perfect if he had some company, especially the company of Nina, well if she was here, but first he’d have to be willing to talk to her because he would always get flustered and just forget what he wanted to say and then look like an idiot, it was just like him, it happened mostly with every girl but when it came to Nina, he was a complete idiot, like a five year old who got shy at show and tell or something. Nina drove him crazy and it was kind of weird working for her at Umbrella. But her company would be much appreciated right now. She would have loved it and he wouldn’t have known what he would have to say but there wouldn’t be much because the sight said it all.
But once he spoke about company, her heard a yes being yelled from somewhere, that freaked him out incredibly, actually he jumped off the rock, stood straight as if he there was a ghost and jut completely froze. Not sure what to make of things. Roden looked around, completely scared and confused, not sure what to make of what was going on. Who else would be out here at this hour, sure the sights were pretty and all, but it wasn’t a normal hour for people to be up. For anyone to be up actually, sure Roden was up but he was in one of his jogging sessions and he rarely came across anyone during his runs. So Roden stood there, completely freaked trying to see where that yes came from. “Hello? Anyone there?” Roden said, completely scared, looking around to see if he saw anything.

”Yay, I’m here. Thank the goddess!” Tahlia said as she sniffled walking around to face the guy that she obviously just startled the crap out of. ”Sorry about that. I’ve been looking for this freakin’ trail for what seems like forever. Got a bit lost in there.” If it was up to her, she would have started looking for the root a bit later in the day. But her class started at 10:00am. A class that she was going to be given a quiz on the reading from Tuesday. If she failed it because she was too sick to function, she would never forgive herself. The beginning of the semester meant the start of really good first impressions. How would bombing a quiz this early on look to a professor like Dr. Steinbeck? Not so good. She needed that mandrake root as soon as possible, so she could get the spell together in time for class. And if that meant waking up at the earliest time imaginable, so be it.
She watched the guy in front of her. He stood drenched in sweat from the run that he had clearly been taking part in. It was kind of awkward. She kind of felt weird seeing him like this. Like it was something personal that she wasn’t at all supposed to witness. She could feel her cheeks getting red. ”Wow, you are all…..um…..sweaty aren’t you?” She cleared her throat and decided to take her eyes off of him and look at the path to make things a bit less uncomfortable. There was only two ways to go really. Right or left. If she could head back up to the harbor which was the way she had come to begin with, she was sure that she’d run into some mandrake root along the way. ”Um, yeah, so can you point me in the direction of the harbor please?” She asked the guy glancing up at him once more.

Out of the bushes and the forest came this red headed girl, who was almost as stunning as the sight he had before him. Though Roden was scared first about hearing voices, his nerves may have gotten worse knowing it was a pretty girl. Sure the thought of what she was doing out here at this hour didn’t cross his mind, he was just to nervous to even think about that now. But she got lost, which was easy because the forest was easy to get lost. If you had no clue what you were doing, you were going to get lost, that was almost guaranteed. Wait, it was his turn to answer right he thought, as he tried to speak to her. As he kind of mumbled a bit “yeah easy to get lost in there” as tried smiling, honestly, he was still as stiff and nervous as he was before he knew behind that random voice was a pretty girl.
So she noticed he was sweaty, which was true but he was double the sweaty now, from his run and from being scared half to death. The girl seemed to try to avoid eye contact with him, which he remembered from those books he read, eye contact was essential when trying to talk to someone, but what was he doing wrong that she kept avoiding his eye contact. “Oh yeah, I’m on my early morning run, I mean I was, I mean I’m taking a break” Roden said nervously as he tried to keep his composure, “I do that a lot from time to time” Roden said, looking at the girls direction but not at her, but at the tree right behind her he couldn’t look at her in the face, he was to nervous and shy to do that right now. He didn’t even know her plus she was avoiding eye contact.
So she wanted directions, Roden could certainly help with that, he was familiar with the area. He knew where what was, so helping her find her way back was not an issue. “Well, you just go right, well, your right. Not mine, I mean that side” Roden concluded pointing to the direction she had to go. Great, she must think he is such a weirdo as he slightly glanced to her eyes before turning away and placing his hands in his pockets and looking down on the floor. “Don’t want to pry or anything, but it’s a bit early to wandering out here on your own, you sure you can make it back on your own?” Roden asked kindly, it was odd that he was even talking to a girl, without getting tongue tied and here he was offering help, maybe all those books were actually helping him out.

Tahlia wasn’t sure if he meant that he ran from time to time or took breaks from time to time, so she just nodded politely at his comment. He sounded like he felt just about as awkward as Tahlia did when it came to talking to people. She couldn’t understand how anyone could run as hard as he seemed to have been doing before she interrupted him. She hated running. In fact, if she had to run for her life from some crazed demonic force, she was pretty sure she’d be dead before she could even get a head start. She loved her exercising when it came to a few sit ups, maybe some crunches, even some light Pilates and WALKING on a treadmill, but running was just way too much exhaustion for her to deal with.
Tahlia listened as he attempted to give her directions. When he told her that she just had to go right, she glanced ‘his’ right, but then he changed his directions and told her to go ‘her’ right. Then he changed yet again and pointed in a direction that wasn’t where he had mentioned before. Hmmm, was taking his directions even a good idea? Tahlia was starting to doubt this sweaty man.
Tahlia glanced in all three directions that he had motioned to. She felt like she was just as confused now as she had been before. But even though she was not sure if following his directions was the best thing to do, she had to somehow get out of this forest. Picking a route was probably the only thing she could do right now. When he questioned her walking back on her own, she was extremely thankful for his concern. In all honesty, she really didn’t want to walk all the way back by herself. If she were to get lost, it was always better to be lost with someone else than just by yourself. ”Well, I’m not the best at directions. I’ll probably end up walking off somewhere randomly.” She laughed sheepishly. She didn’t want to be an inconvenience though. He was only taking a break, and she sure as hell wasn’t going to run with him. HA! Like that would happen. She cleared her throat and glanced over at him again shaking her head. ”You know what, its fine. I’m sure I’ll be okay getting out of here.” She smiled as she hesitantly turned towards the last direction he had pointed to.

Now Roden felt like a fool, he felt pretty stupid, he was probably looking like one too. He was pointing all over the place, he was probably confusing the girl even more. The girl probably felt safer being lost now after the directions Roden gave her. He was just not the best talker in these kind of situations. He wasn’t one for making conversation, he wasn’t one for being the person to keep a conversation going. He stood there and sweating even more probably than when he was actually taking his run. But Roden chuckled a bit when she said she wasn’t good in directions and that she would just probably wander off in some direction. Which was true, she was just as nervous as Roden was, he’d be too if he was lost in the middle of god knows where and having no to little clue where he was.
But maybe Roden did something wrong, he probably did, just like him to chase people off with his awkward way of doing things. He offered his services but she refused, she was sure she was going to find her way on her own. Roden had his hands tucked in his pockets and raised his shoulders as he said. “Okay, well, hope you find your way” As the girl turned around and continued her way to wherever. Gosh once again Roden ruined things, how was he going to talk to Nina, if he can’t even hold a conversation with a girl he didn’t know. He had no shot that was for sure, Roden watched the girl turn around and was off on her way as he turned his head to continue to enjoy the sights.
But after a second it all dawned down on him, of course she wandered off, of course she left. All this time they were talking, Roden really didn’t introduce himself, actually he didn’t even know her name and that was just saying enough of how bad he was is making small talk, you’d assume that was the first thing you would ask if you met someone new. Roden quickly turned around and jogged towards the girl. “Excuse me miss” Roden said trying to get the girls attention, gosh this was such a dumb thing to do, it really was. Once he got her attention, Roden extended his hand, out of kind gesture, really late “The name is Roden….Roden Parson” he said with a shy smile, as he hand was extended, shaking slightly due to his nervousness.

Tahlia had been hoping that maybe the guy would disregard her decline for help and assist her anyway, but instead he wished her luck and hoped she’d find her way. That was not going to happen. She knew she was going to get lost the minute she started walking down the trail on her own. But she didn’t want to bother him. He seemed so in tune with the beauty of the forest which was understandable. The God of Fertility made her parts of the world so serene….when you weren’t completely lost in them of course.
Tahlia could hear the sound of footsteps running towards her from behind, and was thrilled to see that the stranger had possibly changed his mind. She had gladly turned towards him when he called for her, although the ‘miss’ was a bit strange. Even though he was trying to be polite, and it was so working actually, it made her feel old. She hadn’t even been called miss by the high school students she tutored. Because of this, she couldn’t help but smile. But it took him a few seconds to actually do anything once he had her attention. He finally extended his hand and introduced himself as Roden Parson. Tahlia pushed her long red hair behind her ear and reached for his hand shaking it. ”I’m Tahlia Morrison, but you can call me Lia if you like.” It was nice that he had come back. Clearly he had either felt bad for her, or he genuinely couldn’t leave without introducing himself. Either way, she wasn’t going to hold her tongue this time. She needed to get out of this forest. ”Okay, so the thing is I probably won’t be okay getting out of here. Would you mind….um….maybe walking with me?” She asked shyly, but it sounded more like a desperate plead.

Roden must have looked like a crazy person, normal people didn’t do this did they? Walk over to pretty girls and just randomly introduce themselves and then pull out their hand for a hand shake or whatever. Especially when you just had a conversation with that person, normal people didn’t do that. Roden thought to himself standing before the pretty girl, Roden was kind of getting embarrassed by it all to be honest. His cheeks were slowly getting red, blushing in front of the girl he only now wondered what her name was. Roden thought he was probably coming off like a jerk, or she thought he was hitting on her, he didn’t know what normal people did in these situations, because socially, Roden was far from normal.
The girl introduced herself as Thalia but she told Roden he could call her Lia if he liked. Great, leave it up to Roden to make the decisions, leave it up to him to choose what he should call her, Thalia or well Lia, he wasn’t sure which he was going to use yet to be honest. As the thought of choosing went through his mind, Roden only managed to mutter a simple. “Nice to meet you, that's a nice name” with a bashful smile, hoping she didn’t notice how much he was blushing due to embarrassment here. But she finally gave in, she wasn’t going to get anywhere on her own. Roden just chuckled a bit, not laughing at her but, he didn’t know it was just a funny situation. “Oh I see, well then maybe I should” Roden said as he decided he might as well show her the way back, he’d been through these paths before.
As Roden guided Lia or Thalia, still under discussion in his head, Roden thought he might as well say something and not make this a long awkward quiet way back, because it had happen in the past. “So, uhm, you like trees?” Gosh, what a horrible question Roden thought to himself, but he didn’t know what to say, he saw tree’s and it was the first thing he could say, boy was he making a great fool of himself right now, Lia must be laughing at him now. “I mean, if you are out here this early you must like em” Roden said jokingly with a slight grin on his face, he wasn’t sure it was the appropriate time to grin, but he was going to take a chance and say yes it was.

Tahlia smiled at his compliment. ”Thank you,” she said as she glanced off into the woods to hide her own reddening cheeks. Was it really possible for her to get even more awkward with people? Apparently it was. His uneasiness was making her feel extremely uneasy. It wasn’t until she heard a small laugh escape his lips did she glance back at him. Was he laughing at her because she couldn’t find her way out of the forest on her own? It was actually, if he knew the extent of how ridiculous it sounded. A witch….lost in the woods. Tahlia was irritated at herself just thinking about it. ”That would be great,” Tahlia answered as he said that he probably should help her out since she obviously couldn’t do it.
Roden turned to guide her along the path which supposedly led to the harbor where she wanted to go. Tahlia was okay with silence….if it wasn’t awkward. But with two awkward people, the silence was bound to be….well….awkward. Roden spoke up though rather quickly which Tahlia would have been thankful for….if he had asked her something other than if she liked trees. Tahlia scrunched her nose and glanced at him with a smile. ”Are you really asking me if I like trees right now?” Tahlia giggled at how funny this whole situation was. Normally anyone she hung out with would walk all over her in a heartbeat because their personality would constantly overpower hers. But Roden was at her level which meant that neither was overpowering the other. Instead, it was just one big mess of stutters, blushes, goofy comments, awkward questions, and nonsense. Clearly they were both hopeless anti-socials who had no clue how to function around people in society.
When Roden tried to justify his question, Tahlia found that it made sense why he had asked. From his perspective, she obviously had to like something if she was coming out here this early. She nodded with a smile. ”Yes, I love trees. Mother nature is amazing. She showers the forests with beauty really….especially in the morning.” Tahlia was being truthful. Even though the trees were not the reason for her coming out into the woods this early in the morning, she still found them nice to look at. ”So, what about you, mister Parson. Is this a daily thing?” she asked glancing at the sweat that was leaking through his shirt.

Oh Roden probably put his foot in this one, asking about trees, jeez Roden, smooth, super smooth he told himself when she asked why he talked about trees. He wondered that himself now, it seemed like a wise idea at the beginning, but now he kind of regretted it. But thank goodness, she actually went on with the talk about trees. He was happy as a slight smile appeared on his face, walking next to the pretty girl who was oddly fun, yet shy like he was. She actually said she liked the trees, which was nice, it was nice to know someone actually enjoyed the beauty of nature sometimes it was nice to sit back and enjoy what nature created, which is what Roden was doing earlier.
Well now it was his turn to talk, right, that’s how conversation worked, one person said one thing, someone else said the other right? So Thalia or well Lia wanted to know if what he was doing was a daily thing. It wasn’t a daily thing, he did it irregularly, but it was something of a routine he thought, he wasn’t sure how he was going to explain it to Lia, well he had to say something or it would be a long quiet walk back. “Uh well, Not daily but regularly, but not every day, but every two days, well sometimes three, uuh, well yeah I enjoy it” Jeez Roden thought to himself, he was certainly clear on what he wanted to say. He was just all over the place and slightly mumbling it was certainly coming off as crazy really. “I enjoy the sights, it pretty, sometimes you got to sit down and enjoy what is before you”, finally something that made sense, well something he thought sounded like something a normal person would say.
So they walked down the path, Roden suddenly remembered where he was, there was something really cool he remembered he saw here once, but he wasn’t sure if Thalia would want to see it. It was something pretty neat but maybe she was in a hurry to get back home, it was pretty early in the morning, who knows if she had plans. Gosh Roden was just over thinking it, he smiled at Thalia and tried to ask the question, he might as well give it a go. “Uh, are you in a hurry or something” Roden said in a slight mumble. “I got something really cool I can show you” Roden said, a bit no clear now, with some more confidence but he was clearly avoiding eye contact with this girl, because he was a bit freaked he had to be honest, he hadn’t held such a long conversation with a girl in a very long time.
