Lo Mein noodles and spring rolls! Okay, maybe not the healthiest dinner available to her, but Tahlia didn’t want to cook. Alright, it was more that she didn’t have time to cook. It was so much easier to call in an order to Golden Cuisine before she left the university, and pick up her premade dinner on her way to the library in town. Chances were that her roommate was skipping class again which made it difficult to do anything in the dorm room without waking her. Not that Tahlia cared about that really, but she didn’t want to deal with her bitchy roommate’s attitude. Maxi’s was more than enough to handle. And she knew if she did accidentally wake her, there would for sure be hell to pay.
But she was about to say screw it and find somewhere else that sold something that a vegan could eat because the wait was becoming unbearable. All she had been doing for the past half hour was resting her head on the cool wall behind the uncomfortably hard bench that was most likely bruising her bum. But just as she was about to walk out, a girl in rather unique attire stepped up to the counter from what looked like the dining room, ordered a huge order, and turned towards Tahlia to look for a seat to wait in. Tahlia’s eyes left the girl trying not to stare. She didn’t mean to really. The girl’s outfit was loud, and it looked like it was meant for attention. Tahlia moved over slightly to give the girl a bit more room to sit down if she decided to join Tahlia on the bench. When she did, the girl plopped down and sat back hard enough to move the whole bench. Tahlia jerked not expecting the shock wave of carelessness.
Lia wasn’t going to say anything, but the girl had apologized to her. Lia glanced at the girl leaning a bit forward to face her more taking this opportunity to throw everything out there. ”Oh, it’s okay. The bench is not very sturdy anyways. I swear this same bench has been here for years, yet they still haven’t found the time or the money to fix it apparently. Oh and if you have plans tonight, you might as well find somewhere else to get food because yeah, they are totally not on top of things tonight!” Tahlia paused finding that she was complaining a bit too much and a bit too loudly. She was frustrated though. She had a lot of stuff that needed to be done for classes, a lot of errands to run, and here she was stuck in a Chinese restaurant where she was pretty sure the smell of spicy chicken and broccoli had already begun to find a place in her nose where it would probably stay permanently.

Well, the girl had not reacted in the way that Tahlia had thought she would. The girl actually stayed while anyone else probably would have just stood up and walked away leaving a ranting Tahlia to herself. But this girl seemed different. Instead, she told Tahlia about her brother’s cancelation and the fact that she had nothing else to do tonight anyway. Tahlia envied her for two reasons, one, because she had absolutely NOTHING to do tonight, and two, because HER twin brother was still very much alive which meant that he could actually do things with her including stand her up because he supposedly had a migraine. Tahlia would have mentioned something about her being a twin as well but thinking about Toby only made her feel depressed and coupled with her anger towards Golden Cuisine management, it wouldn’t be a good night.
So, it had been a good thing that he girl changed the subject. Tahlia giggled with a nod. ”Is it that obvious?” It probably was. LA was a university town, and she probably looked like a frantic stressed college student trying to get by on only a few hours of sleep and shitty take out.
Tahlia smiled as the girl tapped at her invisible tummy. She was funny that was for sure. The funny thing was that if homework really was bad for the waistline, she still wouldn’t stop doing it. She’d be a fat elephant in no time. Tahlia held out her hand towards the girl and introduced herself. ”I’m Tahlia.” She gestured towards the main drive outside the window. ”And I go to UCLA. Which school do you REALLY go to?” she asked with a laugh assuming that the school name she mentioned was only said in aid of the humor.

Athena smiled at the girl and nodded. "You look about my age," she explained. "And that usually means High School or University." LA was one of the largest cities in the country and offered a lot to do, but with two major Universities, the Cordon Bleu Cooking school, the Art Institute, and the dozen or so community colleges in the area it was almost always a safe bet. She tilted her head at her, "What else do people our age do? Run off and join a band or become starving artists?" She mentally winced. A jab at both her absent parents, and her absent brother who couldn't defend themselves. And she would feel bad about both of them later when she had to face them.
"UCLA?" she asked. "I think I have a couple of old classmates that ended up there..." She thought to herself and then dazed out trying to remember if she had, and weather or not she'd like those people. Through the fog that existed outside her thought she heard the girl ask about what school she really went to. Athena began laughing. She wrapped an arm around her stomach and wave the other hand. "No really!" she said. "The Cordon Bleu Cooking school has like four or five schools here in the country. One is in New York, another is in Scottsdale, Arizona and there's one here... I don't know how many others there are, and I really don't care, but it's where I went... Mostly because I don't want to go to New York without my brother." She looked at the other girl. "So we know what I'm studying, what are you?" she said trying to get the conversation evened out.
